Virosafe develops Good Practice by Introducing Colour-Coded Flooring
Virosafe was recently involved in modernising a 30 year old toilet facility in a large retail outlet to make it more accessible and bring it into line with the current standards. One of the main areas of concern was the flooring. There was an old tiled floor in place and the toilet suffered from the continual issues of bins and other items being left in the in the wheelchair users’ transfer space. To overcome this problem, Virosafe installed an anti slip floor with a colour coded area to identify the transfer space clearly in order to assist other members of the public and staff (particularly cleaning staff) to understand the need to keep the area clear.
The store's Head Office has adopted the practice and the colour-coding of transfer space is now a design standard for all of its new builds. It must be noted that this solution was recommended by Virosafe to be used alongside staff training.
