A Case of Crossed Paths

What were the issues?

This was an interesting project.  Customers of a local supermarket had to cross the entrance to a fitness centre to gain access to the store.  The land was owned by the supermarket but the premises by the fitness centre.  The land had no safe crossing point for wheelchair users or mobility scooter users and the local residents had made complaints to the supermarket about the difficulties some people were experiencing.

Our solution:

Virosafe was invited to identify a solution.   This involved negotiating with the fitness centre about having the work undertaken that would affect access to their facilities and designing the solution.  We were successful in getting the fitness centre to agree to the work being undertaken.  The work involved removing existing kerbs and pavements, installing dropped kerbs and crossing points across the entrance to the fitness centre and allowing access to the supermarket.

The outcome …

The residents of the housing estate were delighted with the work that had been undertaken and thanked Virosafe in their Residents Association meeting.  The supermarket cemented their good relationships with local customers and both businesses benefited from being able to offer highly accessible services to customers and staff.
